Mangroves are recognised for their diverse set of ecosystem services, including protection from tropical cyclones and tidal surges. also adapted to withstand disturbances across a range climatic conditions, the frequency severity projected increase in coming years due climate change sea-level rise. The Sundarbans Bangladesh India is one most frequently affected mangrove forests South Asia. We investigated effect cyclone disturbance stand characteristics on survival two dominant tree species – Heritiera fomes Excoecaria agallocha. Data was collected through field surveys after Sidr, category 5 that struck area 2007, creating substantial forest damage. used Generalized Additive Mixed Model analyse species, stem diameter at breast height (dbh), spatial position degree cyclonic find damage sensitive dbh. At similar size, more vulnerable than In intensity wind during with increasing Sundarbans, depended factors such as proximity riverbank or edges. suggest silvicultural treatments, tapering crown decreasing height/dbh ratios valuable could minimise future area. Further investigations necessary improve management mangroves face change, rise, novel anthropogenic pressures.
